Barton Marina brings crafts and gifts galore to its Christmas Market

Barton Marina is gearing up for an unmissable Christmas Craft and Foodie Market by the waterside on Sunday November 27. With handmade gifts and live musical accompaniment, the event aims to make Christmas shopping the pleasure it should be.

Organised by Sketts Markets, stalls will offer a wide choice of crafts and other wares from traditional and modern arts and crafts, jewellery, festive decorations and clothing to skincare and toiletries. Something for everyone…including irresistible goodies. All in a lovely setting next to the picturesque Trent and Mersey Canal in Barton under Needwood.

The market will be open from 10am to 4pm, allowing plenty of time to enjoy a relaxing lunch at The Waterfront where they will be offering Christmas Fayre in the restaurant at £15 for two courses and £18 for three.

Singer Natasha Marie, well known for her soul, motown, and jazz but now also into sta, reggae and classic acoustic, will be joining the market and singing a selection of up-beat carols to get everyone into the Christmas spirit. She will be performing from 12noon until 2pm.

A life saver

aedsignMarina Pub well prepared for emergencies with new defibrillator

Staffordshire’s landmark food and music venue is the latest pub in the county to install a heart defibrillator for the safety of its customers.

The Automated External Defibrillator (AED), which is used to treat people suffering from sudden cardiac arrest, has been installed in the foyer of the pub at Barton Marina.

It has been purchased by the Derby Tri Club on the recommendation of a committee member who is a consultant in Royal Derby Hospital’s A and E department but will be available to the wider community in the event of an emergency.

AEDs are designed to be used by members of the public and contain instructions which guide the operator through the process. They are both safe and easy to use.

“It’s a life saving piece of equipment and you just never know when it might be needed,” said Megan, General Manager.

“The Waterfront is very popular with hikers and runners because of majestic canal setting and it’s good to be prepared.”

“We take the safety of our customers extremely seriously and evidence has shown elsewhere in the country how valuable a life-saving tool a defibrillator can be in the event of a heart attack.”

The Waterfront is a versatile entertainment venue, catering for every occasion. It prides itself on offering good food which can be enjoyed in the restaurant, bar and lounge area and on the terrace overlooking the idyllic 300-berth marina, while the 50 seat contemporary conservatory, known as the Quarterdeck, is popular with diners and for private parties.

Food is cooked fresh to order with daily specials featuring fresh fish from the market. There are also competitively priced wedding packages suiting every budget.
